Lines

Sunset in the Sagrada Familia, Barcelona (Spain), August 2018

A spotlight marks the goal,
another moves in its direction
from the entrance to the scene.
Myriads of lights draw
with a firm hand
the destiny of humans.
Encased in a body, the soul moves,
hesitatingly at first,
on the luminescent line
of destiny.
Like a novice tightrope walker
the body tries to walk steady
on the light-marked line,
its steps evolving from shy
to a spirited dance.
Feeling at last sure on the tightrope
it goes back and forth and jumps
and cartwheels and leaves the line...
to head again, even unwillingly,
to the goal under the spotlight.
The body regains this way
the path light-marked
by universe and soul,
carefully propelled by the heart
which gives a purpose to life.
