Dawn

Mas La Plana, Santa Maria d'Oló (Barcelona, Spain), February 2019

A moment of peace,
let nothing disturb you,
you’ll be lacking for nothing;
suddenly reality hits
relentless smashing you.
Nothing is
like you used to see,
nothing in your eyes
like it used to be,
nothing is anymore,
everything disturbs you.
Calm so hard fought for
vanishes, leaves your side,
everything disturbs you,
you are lacking for everything,
suddenly reality hits.
Light from far away,
a friendly voice,
a memory of a time that
unknowingly, ineffable
branded you indelibly.
Nothing disturbs you no more,
but everything is different;
you no more lack for anything,
but miss what you long for.
Breathing becomes difficult,
your body shamelessly complains.
Anxiety, breathing is arduous,
your back stiff, about to break,
the air burns, rain sizzles,
you dwell in a place
between Sisyphus and Prometheus,
eternal return of labor and pain.
Light, clarity, a new dawn.
Nothing disturbs you,
nothing you lack for now.
Everything just is,
you breathe, walk, live,
you live, walk, breathe,
you make progress
day after day on this dawn,
the future awaits you
to thankfully welcome you,
the pilgrim who patiently
overcame challenges and pain
of path, life, fight and peace.
Fruitful dawn of light
after the cruel gray of a darkness
uncertain, aimless,
just with the path as your compass,
a path you both
fear and love
and follow.
