Gray

Camí del Mar (Sea Drive), Puçol (Spain), December 2019

From the darkest gray,
from the black coming
out of the deepest shadow.
From the unbridled storm
which relentless whips
your visage with rain.
From the debilitating despondency
which grips your core
and scarcely leaves room to breathe.
From the insatiable hunger
for love, peace, companionship
which remains perpetually unsatisfied.
From all of those, too,
a steady hope arises,
colors come back into the air,
the breath of life finds its way back
to your barren landscape,
to your wounded being.
From stormy gray,
from infertile unease
the rainbow always arises,
though sometimes unseen,
to be your companion for life.
