Castled In

Lapland (Finland), May 2009

The ice which laid siege to my heart,
intent to protecting me, turned into a rock
which hugged my aching heartbeat.

Castled in the safety of that nest,
it lit the fire of passion and,
despite the stony hug, burnt to embers.

No more peace in the rocky shelter,
the energy of passion burns in a frenzy
asking once more to stop being an island.

My aim now is to slit the rocky nest open,
I seek the strength to live unsheltered,
to simply exist with every light I call my own.
