Happily Ever After

W. R. Hearst Castle, San Simeon (California, USA), October 2019

I had my forever, I thought,
my happily ever after;
suddenly, though,
forever just fizzled away.
Just like fireworks:
bright, colorful, beautiful,
to almost silently disappear.
My forever simply faded away.
And though terribly missing
this forever ever after,
all I see around myself
is scorched earth,
a burnt off landscape
but bearing the green hue
of a future to come.
My forever never was anywhere
but inside of me.
Through grief and pain
forever will come through again
this time, though,
from the confines of my heart.
