A Winter Landscape

Three Rivers, California (USA), January 2018

Winter light in bleak weather,

gray in gray, yellowish gray the ground,

yellowish gray, gray blue the sky.

Bitter cold, the wind howls,

flickering lures the fire

into going home to the fireplace.

Yearning for warmth

on a cold winter day;

longing in my veins,

lead in my soul.

But memories of light, too,

recollections of the warmth

which in other winters

could warm up my heart.
